22 February 2010 - River Wansbeck, North Seaton, Northumberland.
After overnight snow we decided to take some photos along the River Wansbeck at North Seaton. Unfortunately the snow melted very quickly leaving only a light covering, but the river was still partly frozen with many circular patterns on the surface.
The first two photos below are views looking up the River Wansbeck towards the "Black Bridge" which carries the railway to Ashington. The third photo is a view looking downstream towards the Wansbeck Barrage. The fourth photo is a view of the footpath to North Seaton Colliery - a village that was completely demolished in the 1960's.
The fifth photo is a view of the footpath below the Black Bridge, an area that used to be wild countryside and the last photo is a view across the river to Stakeford.
16 February 2010 - Rothley, Northumberland.
This morning we went for a walk at Rothley in Northumberland. Starting at Rothley Crossroads we followed a circular route that takes in Rothley West Shield, Rothley East Shield, Rothley Lakes and Codger Fort. We've done this walk a few times and it is featured on our Northumberland Walks website.
The first photo below is a view along the road to Rothley West Shield, followed by two views of the bridge over the old railway from Scots Gap to Rothbury. The fourth photo is a view from the bridge looking north along the railway trackbed.
The fifth photo is a view of one of Rothley Lakes, both of which were frozen solid. the last photo is a view of Codger Fort, perched on a hilltop near Rothley Crossroads.
10 February 2010 - Blyth and Seaton Sluice, Northumberland.
Today we visited Blyth and Seaton Sluice to take some photos for our Northumberland website, the only decent opportunity this week. We managed to take a few in the brief period of morning sunshine.
The first two photos below were taken at Blyth Quayside and are views of the construction support vessel Skandi Inspector and a visiting Scottish fishing boat, Radiant Way.
The third photo is a view along the beach at Seaton Sluice where it was cold and windy. The next three photos are views of the harbour at Seaton Sluice just before the sun disappeared for the day.
