Les + Jan Bell - Photographers Diary  - April 2010

24 April 2010 - Tornado at Hepscott.

Today a passenger excursion train hauled by the steam loco Tornado was passing along the Blyth and Tyne branch line at Hepscott, on it's way from Bedlington Station to Morpeth.

Below are four photos of the train as it passed through open countryside between Choppington and Hepscott.

16 April 2010 - Druridge Bay Beach and Ladyburn Lake.

Today we visited Druridge Bay for a walk along the beach to Ladyburn Lake. It was another fine, but cold day with a brisk wind.

The first two photos below are views from the top of the dunes looking down to the beach near low tide.

The third photo shows a wind surfer on Ladyburn lake and the fourth photo is a view of the swans and ducks at their favourite feeding place and looking for food from us.

In the fifth photo one of the highland cattle that are usually in a field beside the road south of the lake had just been hand fed by a passer-by and looked like he enjoyed his snack! The last photo is a view along the road behind the dunes which is part of the national cycle way.

14 April 2010 - Steam Train at Pegswood.

Today a passenger excursion train was heading south from Edinburgh on the east coast main line, hauled by the steam loco, Princess Elizabeth.

Below are three photos of the train as it approached Pegswood Station, travelling at quite a speed and obviously working hard.

There are also two photos of regular diesel passenger trains that passed as we awaited the steam train.

11 April 2010 - Amble, Hauxley and Widdrington.

Today we visited Amble for a walk around the harbour and pier. We also stopped at Widdrington to take some photos of the daffodils at the Holy Trinity Church and at Hauxley to take some photos of the coast.

The first two photos below are from the Holy Trinity Church where the daffodils were better than we've ever seen them. The third photo is a view of the beach near Hauxley, followed by a view of Coquet Island.

The next two photos are from Amble where yachts were coming and going, making the most of the fine weather. The last photo is a view of the Puffin Cruise boat leaving Amble for a trip around Coquet Island.

08 April 2010 - North Blyth.

An early start today to take photos of the sun rising over the North Sea between the offshore wind turbines at North Blyth. The sunrise is seen in the first photo below and more photos have been added to our Northumberland photo website.

The second and third photos are views across the river to Blyth Quayside where the sculpture Spirit of the Staithes was lit up in the early morning sun and with a vivid reflection in the river.

The fourth photo shows the cargo ship Pride of Sneek arriving at Blyth just after sunrise. The next two photos are views up the River Blyth with the container ship Cala Ponente reflecting brightly in the river.

01 April 2010 - Morpeth and the River Wansbeck.

Today we visited Morpeth to take some photos for our Northumberland photo website.

The first three photos below are views of the River Wansbeck, Telford Bridge and St. Georges Church. The river was still running high after heavy rain but had been even higher the previous day.

The fourth photo is a view looking downstream to Elliott Bridge from the promenade where clearing up work was going on. The fifth photo is a view over the bowling greens in Carlisle Park towards Morpeth town centre and the last photo is a view of Morpeth Court House.
