30 November 2008 - Blyth, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we went to Blyth for a walk along the south beach where the sand was frozen due to the hard frost that hadn't thawed all day. On the way we stopped off at the town quay to take some photos of a cargo ship berthed at the Alcan Terminal. We also stopped there on the way back to take some more photos after dark.
The first three photos below are views of the cargo ship OSC Victoriadiep in sunshine and at dusk. The next three photos are views of the frosty beach, followed by a view of the frosty jetties in the South Harbour. The last photo is a sunset silhouette at the promenade looking up from the beach.
29 November 2008 - Nunriding, Northumberland.
This afternoon we went walking at Nunriding near Morpeth. It was a pleasant, but dull afternoon, not very good for taking photos. We did take some tree silhouette photos and a sunset through a gap in the trees that the road passes through.
28 November 2008 - Druridge Nature Reserve, Northumberland Coast.
Today we visited Druridge Nature Reserve to take some photos from the high dunes above the beach. This location provides fine views up and down the coast and across the lakes that form part of the nature reserve.
The first two photos below are views up the coast towards Coquet Island, while the next two photos are views across one of the lakes.
The last two photos were taken from beside the hut in the fourth photo looking across the lake at sunset.
23 November 2008 - Hauxley Beach, Northumberland Coast.
Today we visited Hauxley Beach for a late afternoon walk. The sun had already set when we arrived and by the time we walked from the north end of Druridge Bay towards Amble and back, it was quite dark.
The beach was busy as we returned with a lot of sea anglers, some of whom were just arriving for an evening fishing session. Below are a few photos from the north end of Druridge Bay, before and after dark.
22 November 2008 - Bothal, Northumberland.
Today we walked to Bothal, where the overnight snow had soon melted leaving only a few bits in shady places behind north facing walls and ice covered pools as seen in the first few photos below.
The cold weather has not deterred the growth of new crops though and fields that were bare a few weeks ago are now green with growth, particularly the field in the fourth photo. The three photos are views of Bothal Castle.
21 November 2008 - North Blyth, Northumberland Coast.
Today we visited North Blyth to take photos after sunset as darkness fell. We arrived earlier in the afternoon and took a walk along the beach for some additional photos, when a heavy snow shower arrived from the north.
The first photo below is view across to Blyth Quay, reflected in the river Blyth. The second photo is a view along the pier - in the distance St. Mary's Island lighthouse, now lit up again and the Tyne lighthouses can be seen. The third photo is a view of the Seven Stars navigation lights and wind turbine below a starry sky. The last three photos are views from the beach as the snow shower arrived.
16 November 2008 - Warkworth Beach, Northumberland.
This afternoon we visited Warkworth and walked along the beach to Amble north breakwater, returning by the path behind the dunes at high tide.
It was a cold but bright day, pleasant for walking, and the sea was quite choppy with good breakers rolling up the beach, as seen in the first two photos below with Coquet Island in the distance.
The third photo is a view from the breakwater to Amble pier and beyond to Coquet Island. In the fourth photo waves were breaking over the end of the north breakwater and the new light that was recently erected.
The last two photos show the dunes as we set off and sunset over the River Coquet as we returned.
07 November 2008 - Blyth, Northumberland.
After we left Seaton Sluice we stopped off at Blyth to take some photos as darkness fell. The lighthouse had just started flashing so we took the view below from Blyth South beach using a long lens.
The next two photos are views along the pier to the lighthouse from the quayside. The fourth photo is a view across the river to Alcan Quay and the last photo is a view up the river where a boat was berthed at the roll-on roll-off pontoon at Wimbourne Quay.
07 November 2008 - Seaton Sluice, Northumberland.
This afternoon we visited Seaton Sluice to take photos looking north and south along the coast and of ships that were leaving Blyth and heading south, close inshore.
The first photo below is a view looking south to St. Mary's Island and lighthouse, while the second photo is a view north along the bay to Blyth.
The next two photos are views of the cargo ship Sea Hawk leaving Blyth and passing Seaton Sluice. It was followed by a smaller ship, the Andrea, seen in the next two photos. Both were listing heavily in the quite rough sea. The last photo is a view of the survey vessel Tridens 1 entering the River Blyth.
01 November 2008 - Bothal, Northumberland.
We started November with a late afternoon walk to Bothal today. As the sun was setting the Castle was glowing and the sun was reflecting strongly in the windows, as seen in the photo below taken through a gap in the roadside hedge.
The second photo is a view from nearby Pegswood towards the farm at Bothal Park taken from the road bridge seen in the third photo. Not views we would normally take but the contrasting bright and dark clouds gave the sky a look we like in photos.
