27 Oct. 2005 - Hepburn, Northumberland.
Today we visited Hepburn and Ros Castle. Hepburn is renowned for Autumn colours in the forest and moors and is a popular place with walkers. Nearby Ros Castle is not a castle at all, but was once used as a hill camp. The viewpoint is one of the best in Northumberland and on a fine clear day at least four castles can be seen - Bamburgh, Holy island, Dunstanburgh and Chillingham.
Below is a view of the forest at Hepburn and also a view from Ros Castle looking down at nearby Chillingham Castle (famous for it's herd of white cattle).
27 Oct. 2005 - Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland Coast.
This morning we walked along the beach at Bamburgh past the famous castle. It was a fine sunny morning with plenty of people about, probably due to school holidays.
Below is a view looking north along the beach past the castle.
16 Oct. 2005 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A walk to Bothal today, where the Autumn colours are starting to appear. Below is a view of the castle seen from across the fields (taken with a zoom lens).
14 Oct. 2005 - Amble, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we walked along Alnmouth Beach to Amble Breakwater to take some photos using a very long lens. This view of a fishing boat passing Amble Lighthouse was taken from the dunes at the land end of the breakwater.
08 Oct. 2005 - Coquet Island Lighthouse, Northumberland Coast.
This morning we visited Hauxley to take some photos of Coquet Island Lighthouse for submission to a photo library.
The photo below was taken from the top of the sand dunes using a very long lens to create a close up view.
The second photo is a view looking down the coast over Hauxley and the full length of Druridge Bay and beyond to the Alcan Works at Lynemouth.
01 Oct. 2005 - Morpeth Station, Northumberland.
After photographing the Duchess of Sutherland at Bedlington there was time to drive to Morpeth and beat the train to take photos of it approaching Morpeth Station.
Below is a view taken at the level crossing where the Blyth and Tyne line from Bedlington joins the East Coast Main Line. Although not seen in this photo there were large crowds at the station to see this rare event - some of the people there had never even seen a steam engine.
01 Oct. 2005 - Bedlington Station, Northumberland.
This afternoon a special chartered train headed by the Duchess of Sutherland steam engine was passing along the Blyth and Tyne railway from Newcastle to Morpeth via Bedlington Station. The Duchess of Sutherland is the largest steam engine ever to pass along this railway and crowds were out to watch it.
Below is a view of the train at the north end of the bridge over the River Blyth at Bedlington Station, where the train turned towards Choppington and on to Morpeth.
